Field Collection of Data can be a lot like looking for a needle in a haystack– the info (or needle) is there, but it’s just so hard to see. And sometimes, when it looks like nothing is there– you just need to keep looking.
This was the case with the Hubble Telescope back in the 1990’s as they pointed the 90 million dollar satellite’s telescope at… nothing. Or so they thought. For this area that looked starless was actually an intergalactic window into viewing over 3000 separate galaxies. Was there even a needle to find in this interstellar haystack? See the video below.
As we take a moment to reflect on what they are calling the “Most Important Image That Hubble Ever Captured,” please think about your data collection efforts, and how the data doesn’t tell the full story until all the collection has taken place. And a leap of faith, a hunch, and sometimes a multi-billion dollar telescope even all work together to answer questions we didn’t even know we were asking.
We think iFormBuilder is the best mobile data collection tool around– not just for it’s ease of use and secure architecture, but because it helps scientists, educators, engineers look at a collection of information, and sometimes, like the scientists behind the Hubble Telescope, see something where no one thought to look.
